William Portillo

William was born 12 August, 1974 in El Salvador, Central America. Due to civil strife and a lack of opportunity in his home country, he came to Belize in 1991 and has been living in Belize since.

 In 1999, he began his woodworking career as an apprentice carver and wood turner in The Orange Gallery’s Wood Shop. After years of dedication and practice he has become an accomplished artist. He enjoys carving Mayan motifs on the wooden coffee tables and chests he makes and love turning rustic chunks of wood into fine art. 

A dedicated husband and father of five, William is also a Pastor in his village's church. After his family and his faith, wood is his love!
